Faith

Centuries ago, the First Kings fled from the fires of Andur to the shores of the Five Kingdoms. Andurian blades in hand, they strode forth to tame the land, but the Laenai would not accept the guidance of Men. The First Kings bound the Laenai to the trees, hills, and rivers. Sealed in an eternal prison, their power is contained. To appease the Leanai, the First Kings paid tribute to them with sacrifice on the winter and summer solstice. Since the Binding, magic has slowly faded from the world, and ancient beasts slumbers. Most in the Five Kingdoms consider this a myth told to frighten children, but they are wrong.

The Church can be found in every village and town. House Mythral has a historical ties to the Church, providing support in people and gold. As the Church goes, so goes Mythral.

Culture & Peoples

After crossing from Andur and the binding of the Laenai, the First Kings built a grand empire that spanned all Thimerias ad built a shining society. A great plague swept across the world and the Old Kingdom collapsed. Five nations grew out of the chaos, noble Barhan, frozen Gegnir, isolated Kirthael, verdant Sibeon, and islands of Maerinel.

The First Prophet of performed the Miracle of the Gates in Sibeon and converted King Rathnan IV to the light and founded the Church of Solaris. With the power of faith and blade, Rathnan reunited the Five Kingdoms and was crowned the Solarian King. He chose a prince to rule each of the five kingdoms.

Setting Creation Notes

Kingdom & Politics

  • King Bartholomew rode forth from Kingsbridge to put down the Ninepenny Crown Rebellion. While laying siege to Gryphonrest Keep, King Bartholomew was struck down by a peasant’s arrow leaving the Five Kingsdoms with no male heir. Now, Queen Anne the Pure rules the Five Kingdoms from the Golden Throne under the guidance of John of the Gaunt. In the Five Kingdoms, women do not rule.
  • John of Gaunt is loyal to House Daeliron, and not to the Church. John was born a peasant and raised to lordship by King Bartholomew. He loved the King and promised that he would protect the princess and see that House Daeliron remains on the throne. John follows the Old Ways.
  • House Mythral became very rich supplying weapons and provisions to both sides of the rebellion.
  • Charles the Red is a distant relative of Queen Anne. He led the rebellion after the slaughter of his family was slain at Somerwind Castle.
  • If the line of House Daeliron is ended, each of the Great Princes will become true kings of the own kingdoms.

  • Strange beasts have been sighted off the shores of the Five Kingdomes, and stories persist about ships being attacked and sailors pulled off ships. Most believe it to be just piracy.
  • Long before the First Kings came to the Five Kingdoms, the Laenai fought an epic battle amongst themselves. The war left scars upon the land, and those sites now hold intense energy. Those who enter those sites feel uneasy; as if they are being watched.
  • So the prophecy says, “From the bloody red war of division shall come our greatest leader. A leader to reunite the kingdom in peace.”
